In 1918 World War I ended, insulin was discovered, and the Boston Red
Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. 1918 was a year
of progress. It was also the founding year of the
Auto Truck Steel Body
Company, known simply today as
Auto Truck Inc.
The original
corporate record states that the nature of the business was "...to
manufacture, buy, sell and deal in and with all kinds of bodies made of
steel or other materials." That remains true to this day, although
now with over 88 years of experience and a full range of truck equipment
products.
Throughout it's long history,
Auto Truck, has undergone continuous
improvement and innovation in it's pursuit to make trucks into tools.

Auto Truck
was located on Carrol Avenue in Chicago until the early 1980s
when it was relocated to a brand new facility on 10 acres in
Bensenville, IL near O'Hare Field. This allowed Auto Truck to greatly
expand capacity and scope of business.
Auto Truck grew even more over the coming years, starting with the
addition of
Fort Wayne Fleet Equipment in 1987. In addition
to serving the railroad industry,
Fort Wayne Fleet Equipment
introduced
Auto Truck's fleet customers to the
ship-through
service.
This helped
fleet organizations obtain higher quality in their fleet purchases
through business advantages like volume discounts,
reduced lead time, quality control, consistency, job ready delivery and
reliability protection.
Fort Wayne Fleet Equipment was a big step forward for
Auto
Truck but there were still more big advancements to come...
