Auto Truck Group Announces Retirement of Western Region GM
Bartlett, IL (August 10, 2016) — Auto Truck Group, a work truck upfitter specializing in the design, manufacture and installation of equipment, announces that Western Region General Manager, Steve Hayes, will be retiring effective September 2 of this year.
“We congratulate Steve on a long and successful career with Auto Truck Group,” said VP of Operations, Pete Dondlinger. “We have all learned from him and benefitted from his immeasurable contributions to our success and our company culture.”
Hayes celebrates a 24-year career with Auto Truck Group and more than 36 years in the truck equipment industry. He began his career just one day after graduating college with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. He worked his way up from a position in the parts department at Layton Truck Equipment (which was acquired by Auto Truck Group in 1997). His career progressed with a position in outside sales, then as an accountant and later as controller, followed by promotion to general manager.
Hayes went on to co-found his own successful truck equipment company in Colorado, which he operated for eight years. Seeing a new opportunity for expansion, Hayes merged his operation with Auto Truck Group in a pairing that has grown to occupy an 80,000 s.f. service center in Colorado Springs. Hayes was named general manager of the new facility as well as the Denver, CO, and Fort Worth, TX, locations, a position which he holds to this day. “Steve’s entrepreneurial background was a great asset as we were ramping-up our presence in Colorado,” recalls Jim Dondlinger, president of Auto Truck Group. “His experience in the industry, talent for team-building, and tireless dedication to the mission made that endeavor a success.”
In addition to his leadership role in the company, Hayes was elected to the board of trustees for the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) serving a three-year term from 2009-2012. A lifelong resident of Colorado, Hayes says he looks forward to spending more time with family and giving back to the community.
